Transitional Independent Living Programs
Founded in 1972, Chapel Haven has three comprehensive, individualized programs located in CT and AZ, for young adults (18+) who have developmental and social disabilities who desire independence. These transitional two year programs (residential and day) provide practical academics, job development, apartment living, social interaction and help with college with a focus on Social Communicative Competence. Follow-up lifelong support services are offered. A summer program is available. Chapel Haven is nationally accredited by CARF, approved by the CT Dept. of Education and licensed by CT DDS.

How long have you been in business?
Chapel Haven was founded in 1972.
What is your primary product or service?
Teaching young adults with developmental and social disabilities how to live independently.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
When I was a college student I volunteered to be a coach for Special Olympics and realized that helping people with disabilites is what I wanted to do.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
Chapel Haven is unique because it is an approved school, transitional independent living program and has a lifelong supported living program.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
Currently we have campuses in CT and AZ. Chapel Haven is expanding all the time with various programs to benefit people with disabilties.

From the Merritt-Wilbur Cross Parkway (north or south)
Take exit 59. At the end of the ramp, turn right. Follow the road until it converges at the Mobil gas station. Follow Whalley Avenue (road bearing to the left) for about seven blocks. You will pass a McDonald's on you right hand side and then go through a traffic light at the intersection of Whalley and Emerson. Just past the intersection, Chapel Haven's main residence is on your right at 1040 Whalley Avenue. The parking lot is just past the residence. Please use the main entrance to the Bershaw-Boswell Community Center at the end of the parking lot. Admissions guests may park in the �reserved� spot closest to our building.
From Interstate 95 (north or south)
Take exit 47 (Downtown New Haven--Route 34). Go north on the exit connector to the end (third exit). Continue straight on North Frontage Rd to the end where it meets Ella Grasso Boulevard. Turn right. Continue on Boulevard to the first light and turn left onto route 34. Follow past Yale Avenue. The Ravens baseball field is on the left and the Yale stadium is on the right. At the next corner, turn right onto Central Avenue. Follow Central Avenue to the end where it meets Whalley Avenue. Turn left onto Whalley Avenue. Chapel Haven is about three blocks up on the left, at 1040 Whalley Avenue (if you pass McDonald's, you've gone too far). The parking lot is just before the red brick residence. Please use the main entrance to the Bershaw-Boswell Community Center at the back of the parking lot.
What type of payments do you accept?
We accept private pay and school district funding. Some clients also receive DDS funding.
Which areas do you service?
Chapel Haven is an international transition program and school.
Who owns your company or runs daily operations?
We are a private non-profit program, governed by a board of directors.
What are your hours of operation?
We are a year round program 24 hours a day - 7 day a week program.
