The Children's Center of Hamden was founded in 1833.
What is your primary product or service?
Servicing children who have been identified with social or emotional problems and who are at risk of abuse and neglect. While each program provides its own specialty, generally speaking the children suffer from one or more of a variety of problems; psychological and social problems; physical and/or sexual abuse; learning disabilities; substance abuse; and family trauma. Approximately 200 boys and girls between the ages of 3 and 18 are served on a daily basis.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
The Children's Center of Hamden was founded as "The New Haven Orphan Asylum, relieving, supporting and educating children who are friendless and destitute and served as a major adoption agency up until about 25 years ago.

« Take I-95 to I-91 North. Get off at Exit 6 (left-hand exit) for Willow Street. At the end of the ramp take a right onto Willow Street.
« Continue straight on Willow Street to Whitney Avenue.
« Take a right onto Whitney Avenue.
« Continue through 6 stoplights. The Children's Center of Hamden is located on the left (brick faced entrance).
FROM HARTFORD ON I-91
« I-91 South to Exit 10. Exit 10 is a connector.
« Follow the connector to the end.
« At the traffic light take a left onto Whitney Avenue.
« Follow Whitney Avenue down 10 traffic lights.
« The Children‘¦s Center of Hamden is located on the right side across from the reservoir (brick faced entrance).
FROM MERRITT PARKWAY
« Take Exit 61 Whitney Avenue/New Haven (whichever direction you are coming from, north or south)
« If you are heading north on the Merritt take a left off the exit.
« If you are heading south on the Merritt take a right off the exit.
« Follow Whitney Avenue towards New Haven for 1.9 miles.

« Take Exit 26 Route 70/Cheshire
« Follow Route 70 towards Cheshire where it intersects with Route 10.
« Follow Route 10 south towards Hamden (past the Sleeping Giant).
« Route 10 becomes Whitney Avenue in Hamden. Do not follow signs in Hamden for Route 10 because that will take you off Whitney Avenue.
